Pardubice Crematorium
November 2, 2024, Prague, Czech Republic
On November 2, 2024, visitors in Pardubice experienced the unique exhibition DUŠIČKOVÝ POP-UP GLASS SOUL, which showcased funeral art in a new light. A key feature of this exhibition was the Pardubice Crematorium, whose historic premises offered a distinctive insight into architecture intertwined with the ritual of the final journey.
Visitors had the opportunity to admire authentic details, such as the original cremation ovens—famously featured in the cult film The Cremator. The crematorium building, designed by architect Pavel Janák and dating back to 1923, was declared a national cultural monument in 2010. The monumental ceremonial hall, adorned with paintings by Professor J. Kysela, and the striking architectural elements, including two sculptures of light-bearers by K. Lenhart, perfectly underscore the significance and uniqueness of this site.
